Counselor’s Corner

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to Gloria Floyd Elementary’s 2023-2024 School Year!

My name is Mrs. Gisela C. Trueba, and I am the new School Counselor! I am excited to be joining the Gloria Floyd family and having the opportunity to work directly with your children. I work with students individually, in small groups, and in their classrooms. We have many school-wide events that also give me an opportunity to work with the entire student body.

As in years past:

  • For small group counseling, we will send home a permission form that will include the discussion topic and goals. Parents will have the option of accepting or declining the invitation for their child to participate in the small group sessions.
  • For classroom-based counseling, topics will be based on district standards and student needs. These topics will be presented in a classroom/instructional style approach. Topics such as bullying, SEL (Social Emotional Learning), resiliency skills, positive school behaviors, and mindfulness strategies are among the many classroom lessons that will be conducted.

We are also very proud of the many school-wide initiatives that we have here at Gloria Floyd Elementary. Together let’s

Set Sail to do our Best, this year’s GFE school motto!

To receive individual counseling, a student may be referred to Student Services by their parents, teacher, or other school staff. Students are also welcome to submit a request using a “See the Counselor” form found in the main office, online or through their classroom teacher.

The Student Services team will continue to be a valuable resource for your child throughout the school year. Our goal is to help every child achieve success both academically and socially, through either scheduled one-on-one counseling opportunities or in any way that would be beneficial to the student.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Gisela C. Trueba
